John and I have always been hard-working and adventurous. Shortly after meeting in San Francisco in the summer of 1985 we started traveling the world and talked ourselves into moving to Papua New Guinea. There we would stay for four years--with John as a Manager for Lae Plumbing and Christine the Manager of a Qantas Airways Ticket Office--with many stories to tell. Our daughter, Kamara was born in Brisbane, Australia while her big teenage brother, Josh, was living in Oakland, California with his Mom, Laurel Avi.
Coming home to the Bay Area in California, John became a licensed Plumbing Contractor in 1993 dba EMERY PLUMBING in Emeryville, California. We had Emery Plumbing open for ten years in Emeryville doing mostly residential remodel work after the Berkeley Hills fires, commercial work in Oakland, Berkeley and Emeryville, and specializing as a Radiant Heat Installer. Emery Plumbing was also a major Hot Water Heater installer of a dozen Home Depot stores in the Bay Area! That had us running. We plumbed the Emeryville Fire Station, installed radiant heat at the Swan's Market co-housing installation in downtown Oakland, California, and did the remodel plumbing for the owner of the Gap Stores mansion near Stanford University.
Since building our dream home in Papaikou, on the Hilo / Hamakua Coast and moving Emery Plumbing to The Big Island in 2001 with Hawaii Licensing (CT-23901), Bonding and Insurance--we have become a major installer of plumbing for water and gas pipes for new custom homes and both residential and commercial remodel plumbing projects. We've installed dozens of septic tanks and connected several residential and commercial buildings to Hawaii County sewer lines. Emery Plumbing specializes in plumbing fine finish fixtures and challenging plumbing projects, including: solar hot water heating systems, pumps and complicated commercial plumbing projects. John is unafraid of challenging plumbing projects and enjoys managing a crew, while meeting and often exceeding client expectations.
